Yesterday was our first garden party/petanque tournament, which Bob dubbed Petanquealooza ’08. (Ok, so we don't know how to spell it, but it’s fun to say.) The weather was just barely suitable but the company was good and the food was plentiful, thanks to the aforementioned good company. It turns out a petanque tournament is a time-intensive undertaking, so the first round matches were only played to 5 points, the semi-finals to 7 and the finals to 11. The final match was riveting, with an amusing stream of whoahs and ohhhhs from the stands. It looked like A&A would shut out M&T, but the underdogs came from way behind to take the win in a last-minute upset. They were elated though tried not to gloat, while A&A bore their disappointment bravely.
The big table earned its keep, lots of wine was consumed, and we hope a good time was had by all. Next time we’ll try to have enough forks.
